Aakansha

We caught up with Aakansha on her path to climate action through fashion. She is a circular fashion strategist and trained fashion designer, currently Program Manager at the Slow Fashion Movement's Learning Lab and a member of the Global Fashion Agenda's 2026 Next Gen Assembly.
Aakanksha wore our custom Sundown Dress to the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen for the dinner at the National Art Gallery of Denmark. Remembering the moment she shared, “being surrounded by art and wearing a piece of art myself felt truly surreal.”

As we worked through moodboards and design stages, Aakanksha was very certain that she wanted to champion climate-conscious fashion the Indian way - our artisans and their craftsmanship in a contemporary light. We drew from her interest in architecture and geometric patterns and landed on a fresh colour palette that added just the perfect glow to this special summer evening.

On asking her what she feels knowing that this piece is made with fabrics and dyes that are non-polluting, she says “It felt like the planet will not curse me! Jokes but it’s a very special feeling of being confident when you wear something that’s not harming both people and the planet.”
She's been thinking about fashion and climate since she was 16. By 19, she could fully encapsulate the vastness of the climate problem and where fashion sits within it. "Once you see that connection, you can't unsee it. There's no going back. It’s like a little but very strong voice inside your mind that says - the problem is so huge, do something about it. Go go go!!"
This piece is one of a kind. It is hand-block printed by master artisan Mallikarjun at Tharangini Studio on a chanderi cotton silk with organic certified dyes.
When Dhi Earth was just beginning to take shape, Indira, the founder was a member of the Next Gen Assembly. 3 years later, a Dhi piece becomes part of the conversations the brand grew from. Truly a wholesome, full-circle moment.
