Indira Varma

Indira is a fashion and textiles designer, passionate about environmental sustainability and community building. She is inspired by artefacts, history and natural ecosystems and expresses that in design through stories of culture, artisans, locality and materiality. Her research explores sustainability in cultural design in India such as natural dyes, block printing and handloom weaves.

A fresh graduate from the LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, Indira’s rewarding graduation project was focused on innovative sustainable production processes and circularity. She constantly engages with the community through her sustainability advocacy initiatives. She is currently a member of the Next Gen Assembly, an advocacy programme organised by the Global Fashion Agenda and London College of Fashion’s Centre for Sustainable Fashion.

 

The core values of DHI are anchored in two pillars: placing nature central in all design decisions and supporting community craft practices within the sphere of cultural sustainability. Reflecting the contemporary voice of Indian heritage, each piece paints the story of a young and bold nation that is aware of its glory and takes pride in the wisdom it has brought to the world.
